LANCASTER, CA—The first electric buses have rolled out of BYD Motors’ assembly plant here. The factory, which has about 60 employees, hopes to increase its workforce and have the capacity to produce 1,000 buses a year within two decades.

LISLE, IL—Navistar International is increasing production rates at its heavy truck assembly plant in Escobedo, Mexico, and its bus assembly plant in Tulsa, OK.
HUNTINGTON, IN—PHD Inc., a supplier of industrial automation components, is investing $4.18 million to expand and re-equip its manufacturing facility here, creating up to 22 new jobs by 2017. The company is installing multi-axis CNC equipment in the coming weeks, with plans to begin insourcing production of CNC-machined parts.
LONDON—Eurozone business activity hit a near three-year high in April, as a modest economic recovery gained momentum and began creating much-needed jobs. The Eurozone Composite Purchasing Managers Index for April jumped to 54 points from 53.1 in March, the highest reading since May 2011.
BELVIDERE, IL— Chrysler’s assembly plant here has received a $1.3 million rebate from the local natural gas provider as a result of implementing three gas-saving projects.
