LADSON, SC—Mercedes-Benz Vans will build a new $500 million assembly plant here to produce its next-generation Sprinter vans. The facility is expected to create 1,300 jobs.
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a production certificate for Boeing’s assembly plant here to deliver 787-9 aircraft to customers. The FAA initially issued a production certificate in July 2012 for the 787-8.
COLUMBIA, SC—South Carolina is a finalist for Volvo’s first North American assembly plant. North Carolina and Kentucky also are pursuing the Swedish carmaker’s plant.
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—Even as Boeing opened a large new propulsion plant here last week, the aeronautics giant announced the facility has already been assigned additional work.
MANNING, SC—Wal-Mart hasn’t sold bicycles made in the United States for several years, but that will change early next year when Kent International Inc. begins supplying the retailer with bikes made at a new assembly plant here.
SUMTER, SC—Apex Tool Group, a manufacturer of power and hand tools, is expanding the workforce at its assembly plant here by 150 to 200 jobs by the end of 2015.
COLUMBIA, SC—Enor Corp., a manufacturer of plastic toys and games, is establishing a new manufacturing facility here to supply U.S.-made toys to Walmart stores. The multimillion-dollar investment is expected to create 151 jobs.
