NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—Boeing may now proceed with development of almost 500 acres near its assembly plant here. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved the aerospace company’s plans to offset the loss of wetlands at the site by preserving nearly 4,000 acres near the Francis Marion National Forest northeast of Charleston.
GREENVILLE, SC—General Electric Power & Water will invest $400 million over the next 10 years to construct a state-of-the-art advanced manufacturing facility here. The facility is expected to open in 2015 and create more than 80 jobs.
ANDERSON, SC—Electrolux is investing $30 million in its assembly plant here, which produces top-mount refrigerators as well as under-the-counter models. This investment is in addition to a prior $30 million investment the company made recently in the facility, which added an R&D center and other improvements.
SPARTANBURG, SC—BMW will invest $1 billion to expand production capacity at its assembly plant here by 50 percent, making it the company’s largest factory in the world. The facility will also add 800 jobs.
WESTMINSTER, SC—Automotive valves supplier US Engine Valve will invest $29.5 million to expand its assembly plant here. The project is expected to create 125 new jobs.
COLUMBIA, SC—Bicycle manufacturer Kent International is investing $4.3 million in a new assembly plant here. The facility is expected to bring 175 jobs to the area.
BELTON, SC—Baldor Electric Co., a manufacturer of energy-efficient electric motors and power transmission products, plans to invest $15 million at its assembly plant here and hire 45 people.
