ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, MI—Like other employers, Primera Plastics struggles to find skilled workers. But the growing plastic molding company is taking a new approach to growing its workforce: It is giving unskilled workers on-the-job training and even providing a free bus ride to work.
DETROIT—Detroit Manufacturing Systems LLC plans to hire 200 assembly workers by January 2015 to support production growth of the Ford F-150 truck. The company will host two job fairs the next two Saturdays to fill those positions.
DETROIT—Tesla Motors Inc. is asking its Michigan-based suppliers to pressure the state’s governor to veto a bill that would bar the California automaker from direct sales to customers in the state. Tesla will procure $170 million in parts and services from suppliers in the state in 2014.
DELTA TOWNSHIP, MI—General Motors Co. plans to add nearly 210,000 square feet to its Lansing Delta Township assembly plant as part of a $37 million expansion project.
DEARBORN, MI—Ford Motor Co. will add 850 new factory jobs at its factories here to support the upcoming launch of its all-new aluminum-intensive F-150 pickup truck.
TROY, MI—Contract manufacturer Unified Business Technologies could add 171 jobs over the next three years after winning an Army contract to make components for surveillance and communications.
NOVI, MI—Creform Corp. has opened a new regional sales office and manufacturing facility here to serve the Northeast and Midwest U.S. markets and Canada.
DETROIT—American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. plans to build a $15 million technical center at its headquarters here to develop prototype components and test manufacturing lines. The center is expected to employ 75 to 100 people.
BATTLE CREEK, MI—Automotive supplier Denso Manufacturing Michigan Inc. says it has 150 temporary production jobs to fill, and it will conduct a job fair Saturday to help fill them.
