CHATTANOOGA, TN—Volkswagen of America has begun production of the all-electric ID.4 compact SUV at its assembly plant here. It’s the company’s first electric vehicle assembled in the United States.

DUNCAN, SC—Magna International has opened a new 170,000-square-foot assembly plant here to produce exterior mirrors for BMW, Mercedes, Volvo and other OEMs. The new assembly plant currently employs some 255 employees, but that number is expected to grow to 400 jobs over the next few years.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC—SHL Medical is investing $90 million to build a new assembly plant here to make autoinjector products. The 270,000-square-foot facility is expected to create some 165 jobs. Operations are expected to launch by 2024.
STAMFORD, CT—GE Appliances, a Haier company, has opened a new microfactory here, CoCREATE Stamford, that will assemble appliances, feature an innovative community maker space, provide hands-on educational opportunities for students, and offer unique brand and product experiences for consumers looking for inspiration for their homes and kitchens.
