SHANGHAI, China—Huawei is planning to build its own chipset factory here as a way to circumvent the U.S. Department of Commerce's decision in August that prohibits U.S. suppliers from providing semiconductor products and components to Huawei and its subsidiaries. The factory will make parts for its telecom hardware business.
TAIWAN—Apple Inc.’s contract manufacturer for chipsets for its iPhones, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., has been hit by a virus attack and production badly affected. Sources for the manufacturing company indicate that this was not a cyberattack by any outside hacker and to that extent, sabotage is not suspected.
