OSHAWA, ON—Another 11 General Motors facilities worldwide, including the automaker’s assembly plant in Ingersoll, ON, have achieved landfill-free status. All totaled, GM runs 122 landfill-free manufacturing and non-manufacturing facilities around the world.
ROCHESTER, NY—Perseverance and creativity enabled a 75-year old GM assembly plant here to go landfill-free. The journey took four years and included seven attempts to recycle a challenging oily filter sludge generated from a machining operation.
DETROIT—Ford Motor Co. plans to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills for each vehicle that it builds by 41 percent as part of a five-year plan through 2016. Ford will reduce the waste generated per vehicle from 22.7 pounds in 2011 to 13.4 pounds.
