DETROIT—Automotive manufacturers have consistently outpaced the global manufacturing average in recent years, according to a global purchasing managers index.
DETROIT—From January through May, automakers and parts companies hired 8,000 workers, a relatively slow rate. But the pace is picking up. The Center for Automotive Research expects the industry to add 35,000 jobs over the full year.
MARYSVILLE, OH—Honda will produce the new Acura NSX sports car at a new $70 million assembly plant adjacent to its existing facility here. The new factory is expected to employ approximately 100 people.
DETROIT—GM is planning to invest approximately $16 billion in its U.S. factories by 2016. The automaker is planning to unveil about 20 new or revamped vehicles in the United States.
MONTGOMERY, AL—Hyundai plans to add a third shift at its assembly plant here. Hyundai will add 877 positions, bringing the total number of jobs at the plant to more than 3,000.
GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, MI—Magna E-Car Systems’ creation of a new assembly plant here helped Michigan add 14,600 manufacturing jobs in 2012, according to Manufacturers’ News Inc.
LANSING, MI—The Lansing City Council on Monday approved a $4 million tax break for GM to build a $38.6 million logistical center near the automaker’s Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
