General Electric will no longer make lightbulbs. In May, GE announced that it is selling its lighting business to Savant Systems Inc., a seller of home-automation technology.
Before the availability of electric lights, early automobiles were equipped with gas lamps for headlights and oil lamps for taillights. Electric lights did not become commonplace until the 1920s.
MILLEN, GA—Wells Lighting, a Korea-based light manufacturer, will locate its first North American headquarters here. The company plans to create more than 200 jobs and invest $30 million into the project over the next two years.
OAKLAND, NJ—Amerlux, a manufacturer of energy-efficient lighting, has relocated to a new 200,000-square-foot assembly plant here. The company plans to boost its workforce by 40 percent.
KENOSHA, WI—Kenall Manufacturing, which makes lighting products, is relocating its headquarters and assembly plant from Gurnee, IL, to a new assembly plant here. The move brings 225 new jobs to southeastern Wisconsin.
