WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Energy has announced $3.1 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to make more batteries and EV components in the United States.
HOLLAND, MI—LG Energy Solution has announced that it is investing $1.7 billion at its plant here to increase production of lithium-ion polymer battery cells and packs for EVs by fivefold. The expansion will create more than 1,200 new jobs.
DEARBORN, MI—Ford Motor Co. has begun assembling the F-150 Lightning pickup truck at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center here, which is located within the historic Rouge Complex.
GEORGETOWN, KY—Toyota Motor North America will add 220 new positions to its production engineering division, which serves as the go-between for design and manufacturing. The additional support will increase Toyota’s capacity to use innovative engineering technology to design and build assembly plants, equipment and processes across its operations.
ENDICOTT, NY—BAE Systems has made a multimillion dollar investment in its facility here that develops and makes subsystems for electric aircraft. The products include energy storage, controls and power conversion systems.
BOWLING GREEN, KY—Battery manufacturer Envision AESC will invest $2 billion to build a new assembly plant here to make battery cells and modules for electric cars from several OEMs.
One of the customers for the battery cells will probably be Mercedes-Benz, which will assemble the EQS electric SUV at its factory in Tuscaloosa, AL.
