MORRISTOWN, TN—Medical device manufacturer Team Technologies Inc. is investing $11 million in its assembly plant here to rehore production. The company is expected to add 200 new jobs.
EVERETT, WA—Inside Boeing’s assembly plant here, two robots glide along tracks on either side of a 106-foot wing for the 777. The robots wash the wing, apply solvent to remove dirt, rinse and then spray two different types of paint. They even reach into complex spaces inside the open wing root that must be painted for corrosion protection.
NETTLETON, MS—United Furniture Industries is growing the workforce at its assembly plant here by 25 percent. United, which makes sofas, loveseats and other upholstered furniture, already employs some 400 people.
DAYTON, OH—In a new documentary, Made in the USA: The 30 Day Journey, film-maker Josh Miller sets out on a journey in which he attempts to live off of only U.S.-made products for 30 straight days.
FORT WORTH, TX—Google has caught the “Made in America” bug. Motorola Mobility, the handset maker acquired by Google, says its next phone, called Moto X, will be made at an assembly plant here.
AUGUSTA, ME—The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership helped a medical device manufacturer here reduce product introduction time, achieve $500,000 in retained sales, and save more than $250,000.
PITTSBURGH—A 12-year study by the University of Pittsburgh has found no statistically significant elevations in overall cancer rates among the workforce at the Pratt & Whitney jet engine assembly plant in North Haven, CT. The investigation was begun in 2000 after several workers were diagnosed with brain cancer.
MONTGOMERY, AL—Alabama gained 2,411 manufacturing jobs between April 2012 and April 2013, an increase of approximately 1 percent. The state is now home to 5,476 manufacturing companies employing 301,956 workers.
