NEW BERLIN, WI—J.W. Winco Inc., a manufacturer of industrial machine components, is installing a green roof system this month at its assembly plant here. Benefits include recycling of rainwater and savings on cooling costs.

WASHINGTON—The purchasing managers index for manufacturing rose to 50.9 in June, up 1.9 points from May. According to the Institute for Supply Management, a PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion, while one below reflects contraction.

SWAN ISLAND, OR—Union workers at Daimler’s truck assembly plant here have gone on strike after rejecting a $1.30 per hour pay raise. The union had been seeking a $1.95 increase.

HIGH POINT, NC—U.S. furniture factory orders in April were 11 percent higher from the same month a year ago. The April results brought the year-to-date order increase to 3 percent.

WARREN, MI—A 61-year-old worker was found dead Saturday while working at Chrysler’s truck assembly plant here. The man, who is not being identified, was working on the line performing a weld-check when he was discovered at 10:30 a.m. slumped over.

CHANDLER, AZ—A gas leak at Intel Corp.’s manufacturing plant here sickened up to 43 people, including 11 who were taken to a local hospital.

SHELBY, NC—Furniture manufacturer Bernhardt Inc.is reopening an assembly plant here that had closed four years ago.

WASHINGTON—For the first time ever, global corporations invested more in emerging markets than the core economies of United States, Europe and Japan, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade & Development.

WASHINGTON—ANSI has approved a new national robot safety standard. Developed by Robotic Industries Association (RIA), the ANSI/RIA R15.06-2012 standard has been updated for the first time since 1999 and is now harmonized with the International ISO 10218:2011 standard for robot manufacturers and integrators.

SAN ANTONIO—Nexolon America is building a $100 million assembly plant here to make solar modules. The plant is expected to create more than 400 jobs.
