CHATTANOOGA, TN—Eight workers at Volkswagen’s assembly plant here have filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming that the UAW misled or coerced them into signing cards requesting union representation at the plant.
TUSCALOOSA, AL—Employees at the Faurecia Interior Systems assembly plant here rejected a unionization proposal from the UAW by a vote of 86-62 on Thursday. The facility makes subassemblies for Volkswagen, Nissan and Mercedes-Benz.
WEST POINT, GA—Four people who unsuccessfully applied for jobs at the Kia Motors assembly plant here are suing the company, claiming they were discriminated against because they had belonged to a union.
In early March, UAW officials met with workers from Nissan Motor Co.’s assembly plant in Smyrna, TN, to lay the groundwork for a third union representation vote. Plant employees turned down the UAW by a 2-to-1 margin in 2001. A 1989 attempt to organize the plant also failed.
