GAINESVILLE, GA—Auto parts maker ZF Industries has opened its third U.S. assembly plant here. The new plant will produce clutches and other power train components for midsize and heavy trucks.
Both Lear Corp. and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing have found a manufacturing home in Montgomery, AL. Lear operates a plant that makes and delivers seats to the nearby Hyundai plant for just-in-time installation in Sonata sedans and Sante Fe SUVs.
This eight-station automatic system produces a hinge in less than 10 seconds.

Manufacturing engineers have two options for obtaining an automated assembly system. They can get each component—an automatic screwdriver, a rotary indexing dial, a gripper—from individual suppliers and integrate the parts themselves. Or, they can ask one supplier to deliver a turnkey machine.
EVANSVILLE, IN—Systems integrator Evana Automation recently shipped a custom-built depaneling cell to a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier. The fully automatic cell loads circuit board panels from standard magazines and depanels them using servo-driven router heads. The individual boards are then loaded into trays, which are automatically stacked.
PARIS, IL—North American Lighting Inc., which makes automotive lighting, plans invest $50 million to expand its assembly plant here and create 300 jobs.
DELHI TOWNSHIP, MI—MPT Lansing LLC, an automotive assembly division of Magna International Inc., plans to expand its operation here with a $7.3 million assembly line that would create 39 jobs.
MOUNT MORRIS TOWNSHIP, MI—Sanluis Rassini, which makes leaf springs, brake components and other auto parts, is building a $17.3 million assembly plant here. The facility is expected to create 55 jobs.
ATHENS, TN—HP Pelzer Automotive Systems, which makes interior trim parts, plans to invest $28 million in a new 185,000-square-foot assembly plant here. The facility will create 200 jobs.
KANSAS CITY, MO—Adrian Steel, a manufacturer of equipment for commercial vans and trucks, is investing $4.7 million to build a new assembly plant here. The facility is expected to create 39 new jobs.
