AUBURN HILLS, MI—ABB Robotics is planning to invest $9.1 million in new equipment and expansion of its North American headquarters facility here. The investment is expected to create 40 jobs.
DETROIT—Fiat Chrysler has pledged to spend $1 billion to overhaul its assembly plants in Michigan and Ohio to build the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and Wrangler pickup. The move will add 2,000 jobs to the automaker’s U.S. workforce and will enable the company to move Ram heavy-duty pickup truck production from Mexico to the U.S.
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI—Oerlikon will build a new, state-of-the-art factory here to make advanced materials for additive manufacturing and high-end surface coatings.
DETROIT—Automotive supplier Gestamp North America Inc. will invest $158 million to expand its assembly plants in Chelsea, MI, and Mason, MI, and invest $700,000 at its North American headquarters in Troy, MI. Its plans include a new chassis assembly line, paint line and press-hardening line in Chelsea and a new 150,000-square-foot facility to house a new laser-cutting cell in Mason. The plants will gain 235 new jobs, while the project in Troy will create 60 new jobs.
LANSING, MI—Michigan has won a nearly $2.5 million federal grant to increase access to apprenticeship programs in skilled trades fields. Part of the federal government’s ApprenticeshipUSA program, the grant will be used to boost the number of apprenticeships by 5 percent by May 2018, with about 1,000 new participants.
HOLLAND, MI—Coastal Automotive LLC plans to hire 110 workers for a recently acquired $6.5 million manufacturing facility here. The company makes high-tech foam-based products that improve safety and block sound vibration in cars.
STERLING HEIGHTS, MI—FCA US LLC won a $4.6 million grant to hire 700 employees at its assembly plant here as it prepares to build the next generation of the Ram 1500 pickup. The automaker began a $1.5 billion project to retool the facility in July.
FLINT, MI—C3 Venture is spending $9.68 million to build a new assembly plant here to make plastic interior components for automobiles. The factory is expected to employ 380 workers.
