WASHINGTON—Airlines flying Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliners need to take extra steps to ensure the planes don’t have engine failures or fires because of a manufacturing fault in the fuel line, the Federal Aviation Administration advised.
SEATTLE—Pushing for faster production of its 787 Dreamliner, Boeing is cutting the amount of work needed to make the planes ready to fly after they leave the assembly line.
EVERETT, WA—Boeing has completed construction of a temporary additional 787 assembly line here—known as the “surge line”—but won’t build new Dreamliners on it until the fall.
SEATTLE—Boeing said replacing improperly installed shims on its new 787 Dreamliners will take 10 to 14 days per airplane and doesn’t indicate that the model needs a redesign.
