LANSING, MI—GM will launch a second shift at its Lansing Grand River assembly plant late this summer. The new shift coincides with the introduction of the Cadillac ATS, a new compact luxury car.

ARLINGTON, TX—GM has begun constructing a new $200 million stamping facility at its assembly plant here.

ATLANTA—Germany-based Ritz Instrument Transformers plans to expand the company’s product line with a $1 million dollar investment at its Hart County, Georgia, assembly plant. The expansion will create some 50 new jobs.

JACKSONVILLE, FL—Medtronic’s Surgical Technologies Div. broke ground on a $14 million, 75,000-square-foot, expansion of its assembly plant here. The medical device manufacturer plans to add 175 high-wage jobs.

ELBERTON, GA—Hailo USA, which manufactures subassemblies for wind turbines, will open a new, $10 million assembly plant here. The facility will employ 200.

WAUKESHA, WI—SPX Corp. has unveiled its newly expanded, $70 million transformer assembly plant here.

CLEVELAND, TN—Only 20 months after unveiling a plan to build a $200 million state-of-the-art assembly plant here, Whirlpool Corp. officially cut the ribbon Tuesday on the energy-efficient and environmentally friendly facility.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV—Automotive parts supplier Gestamp plans to create hundreds of jobs and invest a minimum of $100 million to build a new assembly plant here.

HICKORY, NC—Punker, a German fan and blower company, will hire 62 employees as it opens its first U.S. assembly plant here. The company will spend $4.6 million to equip an existing building.

CHANUTE, KS—Spirit AeroSystems has opened a new assembly plant here. The factory opened with 16 workers but could eventually employ 150.
