BOWLING GREEN, KY—As reported by NBC News, A Michigan man has been charged in connection with the theft of eight Corvettes, valued at $1.2 million, from the General Motors plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Authorities allege that the man and an unidentified accomplice, who fled in a Jeep with Ohio plates, stole the luxury vehicles from the Kentucky plant’s back lot.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was alerted after a woman reported seeing a red Corvette with its price still attached at a local apartment complex. Police later discovered two more Corvettes nearby, confirming with GM officials that eight vehicles were missing.
Security footage from the apartment complex showed three stolen Corvettes arriving, with a suspect exiting a light gray Corvette. Meanwhile, a transport driver contacted authorities about a suspicious encounter with two men attempting to rush him into hauling damaged Corvettes to Michigan.
Investigators believe at least nine individuals were involved in the heist, using a hole cut in a chain-link fence to drive the stolen cars off the lot. More arrests are expected as police work to identify the remaining suspects. Walker has no known ties to the GM plant.
