CHICAGO, IL—In a press release, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker praised the partnership between Stellantis, the United Auto Workers (UAW), and leaders at the state and federal levels for bringing back 1,500 union jobs to produce a new midsize truck at Stellantis's plant in Belvidere. Production is set to begin in 2027.

Governor Pritzker pointed to the positive impact the decision will have on the state, saying it will provide good-paying jobs for Illinoisans while bolstering the automotive industry. Representative Eric Sorensen highlighted the personal significance of the announcement, reflecting on the devastating impact layoffs have had on local communities near the Belvidere plant. He called the return of 1,500 jobs a critical step in supporting Rockford-area families with the quality jobs they deserve. Representative Bill Foster noted that the victory is a direct result of worker solidarity and collaboration across all levels of government, expressing his commitment to ensuring the plant reopens as planned.

Senator Tammy Duckworth commended Stellantis for honoring its agreement with the UAW, stating that this reinvestment underscores the importance of the workforce in the future of manufacturing. Senator Dick Durbin added that the news signals a positive step for UAW workers in Belvidere, who have endured significant challenges. He also emphasized Illinois’ leadership in the growing electric vehicle industry and the importance of continuing to support local manufacturing efforts.
