REGENSBURG, Germany—BMW’s assembly plant here recently assembled its 100,000 fully electric vehicle since the start of this year. It was an iX1 sport utility vehicle.

The flexible factory produces more than 1,400 X1 and X2 models every work day. The former is assembled in three power train variants: as an internal combustion engine vehicle and plug-in hybrid, alongside the fully-electric version.

“We have achieved our projected growth target for production of fully electric vehicles in 2024,” says Armin Ebner, BMW Regensburg plant manager. “More than a third of the vehicles built at our plant this year were electrified.

“Our plant has become even more digital, more circular and more efficient overall this year,” explains Ebner. “We are systematically driving our transformation toward electromobility and the BMW iFactory, an intelligently connected digital factory.”
