Not all soldering operations are accomplished with a reflow oven or wave-soldering system. Many components are soldered manually with a soldering iron

But, the soldering irons for an assembly line are much more sophisticated than the tools that can be had at the local hardware store. Two of the newest soldering tools will be on display at this year’s ASSEMBLY Show.

American Hakko Products Inc. recently introduced the FX-971 benchtop soldering station. This compact, 100-watt station offers both standard and micro soldering irons. A nitrogen chamber is available as an option for either iron. The station provides a 15-degree angle tilt, wider temperature setting, and a new holder for tip removal and storage.

Temperature can be set from 120 to 850 F. The controller stores five preset temperatures, displays real-time tip temperature, and records tip temperatures, user profiles and auto-calibration measurements. Features include a low-temperature alarm, a sleep timer, and automatic shut-off. Soldering tips are available in more than 60 shapes and sizes.

The tool holder has an integrated brass wire receptacle, sponge holder, safety tip removers, and additional tip slots with no sleep cable required. The station works seamlessly with the FG-100/101B tip thermometer for measuring tip temperature and automatically offsetting the temperature on the station.

Another exhibitor, PACE Worldwide, has just updated its ADS200 soldering station. The entire thermal system of the station has been redeveloped, from power source to tip-heater cartridge. The ADS200 PLUS is now more responsive when higher thermal demand is required in the soldering process. Thermal recovery has also been improved.

The iron heats up more quickly, so assemblers can start soldering tasks promptly. Temperature control and stability have been enhanced, even for elevated temperatures. With improved thermal management, the station offers an extended duty cycle, enabling prolonged usage without compromising performance or reliability. The station excels at handling higher-mass components and assemblies.

Hakko and Pace are among several suppliers of electronics assembly technology that will be exhibiting at the show, which will take place Oct. 22-24 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. What’s more, the show will be co-located with SMT International, one of the largest trade shows in the country dedicated to electronics assembly.

Besides electronics assembly technology, you’ll find 250 suppliers of robots, automation, adhesives, dispensing technology, parts feeders, fastening tools, software and other assembly technologies. For more information, visit www.theassemblyshow.com.
