For a product to be assembled successfully, it’s essential to move the right parts or tools, to the right place, in the right orientation, at the right time. Motion control technology makes that happen.
Whether you’re looking for a rotary indexing table, a pneumatic linear actuator, or an electric motor, you’ll find it at The Assembly Show. At least 20 suppliers of motion control technology are exhibiting the latest components at the show. Here’s a sample of what’s on the show floor.
Stainless Steel Shock Absorbers
Stainless steel gas springs and shock absorbers are for applications in the food, medical and electronics manufacturing industries. They resist corrosion from humidity, cleaning, sterilization, chemicals and biological fluids. The high chromium stainless steel used in these products ensures a robust and self-healing protective layer against corrosion. Self-compensating technology allows these components to adapt seamlessly to varying energy conditions, ensuring consistent performance without manual adjustment. Booth 505

Heavy-Duty Casters Are Durable
Spinfinity Super Endurance casters (ZFSEC) and Super-Endurance dual casters (ZFSEC2) feature a heavy-duty “V-style” seal for better performance in demanding environments.
ZFSEC casters have a kingpin-free design for extra heavy-duty applications. The V-style seal protects against dirt, debris and moisture. This advanced sealing technology ensures consistent performance and extends the life of the caster.
The casters have a swiveling top plate and an inner raceway made from forged steel, providing superior strength for shock conditions. Sealed precision ball bearings are also now standard in all wheels, contributing to maintenance-free performance. Notably, the zerk fittings have been eliminated, since the new design makes them unnecessary.
ZFSEC2 casters are engineered for extra heavy-duty applications where stability, durability, and maintenance-free operation are paramount. They, too, have a V-style seal. Sealed bearings ensure maintenance-free performance. The dual-wheel configuration enhances stability and allows for a lower overall height.
Casters in both series are finished in a durable HAA polyester platinum powder coat and are available in a wide variety of wheel types, allowing for customization based on application needs. Booth 544

Cam Followers Can Be Mounted in Tight Spaces
The CFC-B Series of short stud-type cam followers have a unique mounting structure that solves space limitations that often exist on the stud side of the assembly. The mounting structure consists of a hexagon socket head bolt and a dedicated flange nut that creates a more compact cam follower and reduces the required mounting space on the stud side by up to 34 percent. Available with cage or full-complement rollers, the cam followers have a sealed structure and crowned outer ring. Outer diameters range from 19 to 32 millimeters. Stud diameters are 8, 10 and 12 millimeters. The cam followers are also easy to mount using a hex wrench. Booth 1441

Suspended Conveyor System
The Suspended Conveyor System optimizes space and load-carrying capacity while supplying products that are hung up for transportation due to their irregular shape. A gradient of just 3 inches is all that is needed to ensure suspended goods travel from end to end under their own weight alone, with no additional drive needed. This is made possible by a conveyor rail profile and a specially designed carriage that counteracts canting and self-locking. The carriage’s integral stop limits swaying motions, protecting material in transport. All conveyor components feature rounded contours that have been coordinated with each other. This ensures ergonomic and safe working conditions.
The conveyor can be integrated into frames or trolleys built from item Profile Tube System D30 and can be fitted at any height. Booth 739

Compact Motor Provides 2 Million Increments per Revolution
The ROTAX Rxhq 110-50T4.0 hollow shaft motor measures just 110 by 110 by 55 millimeters, with a hollow shaft diameter of 50 millimeters. It provides a nominal torque of 4 newton-meters and a peak torque of 12 newton-meters. Completely gearless and backlash-free, the motor delivers precise motion and maintenance-free operation.
The motor has a repeatability of ±0.5 arc-sec unidirectional and ±1 arc-sec bidirectional. The integrated absolute encoder, capable of up to 2,592,000 increments per revolution, enables highly accurate positioning. The XENAX Xvi 75V8S servo controller complies with stringent safety standards (SIL 2, PL d, CAT. 3) and offers seamless integration into PLC systems, such as Allen Bradley, Siemens or Beckhoff.
The motor requires just one cable, which simplifies installation and reduces wiring complexity. Booth 702

Two-axis Trunnion for Machine Tools
The RTD350 two-axis trunnion table features Sankyo’s RollerDrive technology for both the tilt and rotary axes. Full 360-degree rotation provides the ability to machine multiple sides of a part. The speed and accuracy of the table make it suitable for many applications. Zero-backlash motion has many advantages for both high-production machining and contouring work. The machine is engineered to maintain integrity even under the stress of cutting hard metals. It has a rotational accuracy of ±10 arc-seconds and a repeatability of less than ±4 arc seconds.
Zero-backlash motion is achieved through with preloaded roller followers and needle bearing roller followers. The preloaded roller followers interact with the input shaft’s rib surfaces, eliminating backlash. This ensures superior precision and rigor for both clockwise and counterclockwise rotations. Roller followers transmit power through rolling rather than sliding, achieving an efficiency rate of over 90 percent. This reduces wear, improving the machine’s durability.
Unique to the RollerDrive CNC is its no-clamp operation. Its mechanically rigid structure eliminates the need for clamp and unclamp times, common in conventional hydraulic systems. This saves energy and enhances productivity through ultra-fast positioning. The machine can perform a 90-degree rotation in just 0.4 second.
Its unique mechanism ensures it can operate for years without performance degradation. There’s no wear on internal parts and no need for regular calibration. Booth 1605
