HORSEHEADS, NY—Siemens Mobility is investing $60 million to build a new assembly plant here to make its American Pioneer 220 high-speed train.

The first facility of its kind in the U.S., the 300,000-square-foot factory is expected to 300 people. The trains will run on Brightline West’s Las Vegas to Southern California line. Production at the new facility is expected to begin in 2026.

“Bringing high-speed rail to America is no longer a dream, but a reality,” said Marc Buncher, CEO of Siemens Mobility North America. “We will transform the way Americans travel.”

“For the first time ever in the U.S., we will be manufacturing trains that will compete with the best in the world,” added Michael Reininger, CEO of Brightline. “Reaching speeds of over 200 mph, these trains will be marked by the latest innovations designed for the modern traveler and establishing a new benchmark in transportation.”

Siemens has been manufacturing trains in the U.S. for more than 40 years.
