NUREMBERG, Germany—Leoni AG has developed a new line of AC charging cables that are lighter, thinner and easier for electric car owners to handle. The cables are designed for the best possible current carrying capacity for each respective application, thereby reducing the conductor cross section.

Engineers reduced cost by optimizing the amount of materials used. The total weight of EcoSense Nxt cables have been reduced by 6 percent, while cable diameter has been reduced by an average of 4 percent. EcoSense Nxt+ cables weigh 20 percent less and diameter has been reduced by 9 percent.

The new design improves the layout of the control wire, enabling the wire to be better protected against mechanical strains and exposed to less stress. A more robust core material also benefits bending cycle resistance and handling.
