LINCOLN, AL—Honda Motor Co. opened what it calls a first-of-its-kind post-production option factory near its assembly plant here.

The $16 million, 66,000-square-foot facility will serve as a hub for installing accessory packages for vehicles assembled at the Lincoln plant.

Employing some 4,500 employees, Honda’s Alabama assembly plant manufactures the Pilot and Passport SUVs, the Ridgeline pickup, and the Odyssey minivan.

In December, Honda began production on the company’s 2023 Pilot SUV. It’s the first redesign for the three-row SUV in six years. Honda has invested more than $3 billion in its Lincoln operations.

The plant has produced more than 5.7 million vehicles since it began production.
