WALTERBORO, SC—Pomega Energy Storage Technologies, a subsidiary of Kontrolmatik Technologies, will build its first U.S. assembly plant here. The $279 million project is expected to create 575 jobs.
The 500,000-square-foot factory will make lithium iron phosphate batteries for grid-scale energy storage projects. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2024.
In addition to manufacturing battery cells, the factory will also assemble turnkey energy storage products, including modules, cabinets and containerized systems.
“We hope that this investment, the first of more to follow, will make notable contributions to the efforts in establishing a domestic manufacturing capacity in the USA for lithium-ion batteries,” says Bahadir Yetki, CEO of Kontrolmatik Technologies and Pomega Energy Storage Technologies.
