LANSING, MI—The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is has an abundance of scenic coastlines and a rich mining heritage. However, the UP also has a shortage of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles.
That’s about to change under a new initiative between the states of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. The Lake Michigan EV Circuit Tour will be a network of electric vehicle chargers spanning more than 1,100 miles of drivable shoreline around Lake Michigan. The goal is to make the popular route that connects Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Traverse City and Muskegon free of range anxiety for EV owners.
Chargers will be installed in key coastal communities at museums, lighthouses, state parks, breweries, vineyards, restaurants and other small businesses. They will also be meshed into existing charging infrastructure networks.
