REDWOOD CITY, CA — Carbon3D Inc. will produce 3D-printed central and lateral air vents for the dashboard of the Lamborghini Sián FKP 37 hybrid sports car, officials from both companies recently announced. This project expands Carbon3D's partnership with ithe conic sports-car maker. The companies began working together last February with the development of a fuel cap and air-duct clip part for the Urus SUV.
Carbon officials say its additive manufacturing platform cuts 12 weeks off the lead time for the new air vents. Lamborghini CTO Maurizio Reggiani adds that the company moved from concept to creating a part on a prototype vehicle in three weeks, then moved the part into full production after another three months.
Stefan Gramse, the automaker’s chief procurement officer, says the platform provides its designers and engineers with “the ability to produce better parts. Working with Carbon, we have found a partner that shares our vision for creating best-in-class products that push the limits of what’s possible.”
