From its headquarters in Oerlinghausen, Germany,Hanning Elektro-Werkemanufactures custom drives, frequency inverters, pumps, linear actuators, fan motors and electric motors for customers across the globe. The company also manufactures these products at plants in Lithuania, China and India, employing nearly 1,500 workers overall.

Hanning has been making electric motors for more than 60 years. The motors are a core product of the company’s drive technology division and have outputs up to 7.5 kilowatts. Customers use them for centrifuges, industrial door drives, vacuum pumps, drain pumps in washing machines and dishwashers, and adjustment drives in hospital beds and treatment tables.

In recent years, Hanning has increasingly used single-component adhesives rather than screws, rivets or welds to join coaxial components to the motor housing. For example, the company uses DELO-ML AD170 to bond metal ball bearings to metal motor housings, and DELO-ML DB133 to bond bearings to nonmetal bearing shields within its motors.

In both applications, a thin layer of adhesive is applied by rotor spray onto the ball bearings. Within seconds after joining the parts, the adhesive cures anaerobically, providing a high-strength bond and equalizing tension between the dissimilar materials.

DELO Industrial Adhesives makes the adhesives, which also resist vibration, elevated temperatures and chemicals when completely cured. These capabilities make the adhesives ideal for use at surface edges.

AD170 is designed for bridging gaps, securing screws and sealing threaded connections. Once cured, it is difficult to remove.

DB133 is designed for laminar, impact-resistant and metal-to-plastic bonding. This highly flexible adhesive offers elongation at tear up to 130 percent and can be cured with ultraviolet (UV) light.

A third formulation in the series, DELO-ML DB135, is designed for ferrite and magnet bonding, as well as bonding components with dissimilar coefficients of thermal expansion. It offers elongation at tear up to 30 percent and can be cured with UV and visible light. DB135 can be used in temperatures ranging from -60 C to 180 C.
