Called cadverter.com, the company was launched by Theorem Solutions Inc. Engineers can send data to the site from any leading computer-aided design, manufacturing or engineering program. The site then translates the data for use with any other program, and returns the data to the sender.
Theorem's CADHealer software "heals" any parts that do not convert automatically. For security, the data is encrypted to and from the sender's desktop.
According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), some engineering departments spend as much as 50 percent of their time correcting or recreating unusable engineering data. By NIST estimates, data exchange problems cost the U.S. automotive industry $1 billion annually.
