The use of structural adhesives for vehicle assembly has increased significantly in recent years, and that trend will continue as automakers incorporate an ever-growing list of materials into their designs to reduce vehicle weight. Indeed, the ability to join dissimilar materials may be the chief advantage of using adhesives for structural joining applications. A composite panel cannot be welded to a metal frame, and fasteners require holes, and that can damage the base material. Adhesives offer many advantages over mechanical and thermal methods of assembly. This presentation will cover the latest chemistries for structural bonding in automotive applications.
